At 12:04 p.m., firefighters responded to reports of a wildfire at Pogonip Park, located at 21 Municipal Wharf, according to fire officials.
When firefighters arrived, the fire had burned approximately 3 acres and was threatening the park’s clubhouse.
Fire crews were able to protect the clubhouse and slow the spread of the fire, but because of wind and weather conditions, a spot fire started in a meadow west of Golf Club Drive.
The spot fire was quickly put out, fire officials said.
Cal Fire arrived at the scene and provided assistance, with a helicopter supplying water drops and an air tanker dropping fire retardant, fire officials said.
After 90 minutes, firefighters were able to contain the fire and by 4 p.m., the blaze had been completely put out, according to fire officials.
Santa Cruz fire officials did not immediately release more information about the possible cause of the fire besides that it was being considered as suspicious.
