The mother and father of a 5-week-old infant were arrested Thursday in connection with the death of the child, police said.
Ray Ray Darn, 35, and Marilyn Northington, 28, were arrested on suspicion of murder and child abuse causing great bodily harm, according to the Richmond Police Department.
On Thursday at 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call from a hotel at 3150 Garrity Way about a couple rushing to the hospital with their infant who was not breathing.
At 6:55 p.m., police received a call from the hospital about a 5-week-old infant who arrived at the hospital and was ultimately pronounced deceased.
Investigators determined child abuse appeared to have resulted in the child’s death, police said.
The Richmond Police Department’s Homicide Unit was notified of the incident and assumed the investigation. Darn and Northington were ultimately arrested in connection with the death.
Police said the infant had obvious signs of child abuse.
Two other small children with the couple were taken into protective custody and turned over to Child Family Services, police said.
