Subcontractors with PG&E will be performing routine gas meter inspections throughout Sonoma County beginning this week and continuing during the next few weeks.
Officials with PG&E said the workers will inspect approximately 10,000 residential and commercial gas meters in Santa Rosa, Sebastopol, Rohnert Park, Cotati and Sonoma.
The contractors are from the company Alisto, will be carrying a mobile phone or tablet to take pictures of meters and they will be wearing a PG&E hardhat and safety vest.
Their shirt will have the contractor’s logo, and they will carry identification or a badge.
The workers will not be in PG&E vehicles, but the vehicles will have a PG&E placard in the windshield, officials said.
The workers will not enter customers’ homes during the inspections, but they may knock on doors to access a blocked meter.
All workers have been instructed to take social distancing precautionary measures.
If a customer feels uncomfortable with the inspections, the customer can call PG&E’s customer service line at 1-800-743-5000.
The inspections are expected to conclude by the end of June.
