A male suspect was taken into custody after a carjacking in San Francisco led to a pursuit across the Bay and a crash in Oakland early Wednesday morning, police said.
Shortly before 2:15 a.m., a male and female victim parked their car in the 500 block of Jones Street. The suspect, whose name has not been released, approached and told the couple to hand over their car keys, according to police.
Believing the suspect had a gun, the pair handed over the keys and the suspect drove away in their car. Officers located the vehicle and began a pursuit, but then canceled it while notifying other agencies about it, police said.
California Highway Patrol officers eventually located the vehicle and began another pursuit, which ended when the suspect vehicle crashed on Seminary Avenue in Oakland, police said.
The male and female victims of the carjacking were not injured during the theft, according to police.
