Burned travel trailer to be cut into pieces, hauled by dump trucks

A 40-foot travel trailer that caught fire and closed the westbound lanes of state Highway 37 on Tuesday morning is unsafe to tow, and Caltrans crews will cut it in pieces and haul them away in dump trucks, the California Highway Patrol said.

The fire was reported around 9:15 a.m. just west of Lakeville Highway. Highway 37 initially was blocked in both directions, but the eastbound lanes and one westbound lane have since reopened. The No. 2 westbound lane will remain closed for several hours, CHP officials said around 1 p.m.

Motorists should expect major delays in the area, according to the CHP.

Motorists were advised to use state Highway 121 or Lakeville Highway as alternate routes. The Lakeville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire, CHP Officer Andrew Barclay said.
