Police seek help to find fatal hit-and-run suspect

Oakland police have identified a 27-year-old man who allegedly struck and killed a 6-year-old boy and his mother and injured the boy’s uncle on Saturday evening.

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding Rasenoch Allen, who is being sought for the hit-and-run reported at 7:21 p.m. Saturday at 26th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard.

The Alameda County coroner’s bureau has identified the two victims who died as 6-year-old Angel Garcia and his mother 30-year-old Alma Vasquez, both Oakland residents. The 6-year-old’s 20-year-old uncle remains in a hospital in critical condition, police said.

Officers determined that a black Mercedes-Benz two-door vehicle, allegedly driven by Allen, was heading west on Foothill Boulevard when it struck the three pedestrians crossing the street in a marked crosswalk. The driver fled and the vehicle was later located abandoned in another part of Oakland, police said.

A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered by Oakland police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland for information leading to Allen’s arrest. Anyone with information about the case or his whereabouts is asked to call the Police Department’s traffic investigation unit at (510) 777-8540 or Crime Stoppers of Oakland at (510) 777-8572.
