Five people were injured Sunday afternoon when a pickup truck crashed through a front window of a Sizzler restaurant on Hesperian Boulevard just south of the Hayward Executive Airport, a Hayward firefighter said.
The accident occurred about 1:15 p.m. today when two vehicles collided on Hesperian. Hayward Fire Department Capt. Don Nichelson said one of the vehicles, a pickup truck, careened through a front corner window of the crowded restaurant at 24107 Hesperian.
The five people injured, all of them restaurant diners, suffered injuries Nichelson described as “minor to moderate” and were taken to nearby hospitals. Fire department paramedics checked several other restaurant customers for possible injuries as well, Nichelson said.
The driver of the pickup was not injured.
More information about the initial collision was not immediately available, as Hayward police have not yet returned messages.
