The California Highway Patrol broke up an illegal sideshow on Interstate Highway 580 in Oakland early Sunday morning.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. near the Fruitvale Avenue exit. One driver was cited and released after a brief pursuit, according to Officer Sean Wilkenfeld.
The driver briefly tried to flee the scene in a Chevy Impala but was quickly apprehended by officers, Wilkenfeld said, and that vehicle will be impounded for a month at the driver’s expense:
“Sideshows are dangerous and they’re illegal. … This driver is going to face the consequences. … He no longer has the car for 30 days, and it’s going to be a lot of tow fees. Think twice before you’re involved in a sideshow. It could cost you quite a bit.”
