A fight outside a restaurant in San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood early Sunday morning led to a man suffering life-threatening injuries, police said.
At about 12:45 a.m. two parties were eating at a restaurant in the 1200 block of Grant Street, near the busy intersection of Columbus Avenue and Broadway, when an argument erupted between them.
Three male suspects went outside and one of them punched the victim, described as a 59-year-old man, in his face, knocking him to the ground, police said.
The two other men continued to assault the victim until he lost consciousness, according to officers.
The victim suffered a large cut to the back of his head, facial cuts, bruises and possibly a traumatic brain injury, according to police.
He was transported to San Francisco General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Two of the suspects are described as men between 20 and 30 years of age but police have not released a description of the third suspect. No suspects have been arrested and the incident remains under investigation.
The intersection of Columbus Avenue and Broadway, where numerous strip clubs and bars are located, was the scene of a shooting the previous weekend.
In that incident, a 27-year-old man was shot in his lower body as bars were closing. The motive for that shooting remains under investigation.
