An 18-month-old boy drowned in a hot tub northwest of Watsonville on Monday afternoon, a Santa Cruz County sheriff’s spokesman said Tuesday.
Around 1:30 p.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to a reported drowning at the Santa Cruz/Monterey Bay Kampgrounds of America camp at 1186 San Andreas Road, sheriff’s Lt. Kelly Kent said.
The child was at the pool with family and friends when he somehow fell into the hot tub and drowned, Kent said.
The boy received CPR from people at the pool before deputies arrived, according to Kent.
He was transported by ambulance to Watsonville Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later, Kent said.
The boy and his family are from Scotts Valley, Kent said:
“This appears to be a tragic accident and every parent’s worst nightmare.”
