Two men were seriously injured during a shooting on a footbridge at San Francisco’s Mission Dolores Park early Sunday morning, police said.
At about 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, as Fourth of July celebrations from the night before were winding down, a 20-year-old man and a 24-year-old man were standing on a footbridge in the park near 19th and Church streets when they were struck by gunfire, police said.
The younger of the two victims suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound to his chest while the other suffered a gunshot wound to his arm that is not considered life-threatening, according to police.
Both victims were transported to San Francisco General Hospital.
San Francisco police spokesman Officer Albie Esparza said that the suspects are described as three males in dark clothing.
Following the shooting, the suspects were seen fleeing the area on foot, heading north up the hill on the Muni tracks. They were last seen on the tracks, heading east around a bend near 20th Street.
A motive for the shooting remains under investigation.
