NBA free agency’s own Cyber Week

Welcome to Cyber Week NBA-style, sports fans!

Pro hoops free agency will be in full force, just in time to kick off the holiday season. And you can bet that none of these guys will be available on Wal-Mart layaway.

With the NBA season set to start on Christmas Day, what better time to buy yourself a couple super-tall sports stars worth a couple mill per year? It’s like Black Friday’s worst nightmare with a court-side twist!

Surprising? Shouldn’t be, especially when you look at how long the NBA lock-out drudged on for. It will take more than several months of unproductive bickering to keep basketball’s GMs from shelling out bazillions for a super star or two.

So while the rest of the country is scraping up all the best deals that Amazon.com has to offer, basketball’s feisty franchises will be spending millions on four-year deals for the likes of Marc Gasol and Tyson Chandler. Expert analysts predict even a disappointment like Greg Oden will score a one- to two-year deal for somewhere around the Cyber Week bargain price of $15 million.

And don’t think for a second that you’re going to find my man Nene the Nugget in a bargain bin, no sir! A Google fan poll voted that the big bad center is worth a whopping $45 million, four-year contract.

I’m sure it will be a fabulous Cyber Week for a slew of NBA teams. Because while the rest of the country is glued to their computer screens for fear of missing even a single shopping deal, these GMs can rest easy.

Just one day of “Cyber crazyness,” and they’ll be waking up on the 25th with free agents under the family Christmas tree.
