The 49ers-to-Santa Clara took another sizable step towards actually happening on Tuesday.
The Santa Clara City Council unanimously approved $10 million to start prepping the land in preparation to start construction of the new 68,500 seat stadium. The 49ers are chipping in about $6 million of that total.
The plot of land next to the Great America amusement park have all utilities rerouted, and an access road and sidewalks will be built. No word on whether the sidewalks will be made of gold.
If the project is completed, but the 49ers never move to Santa Clara and the proposed stadium never becomes a reality, the city of Santa Clara will have wasted a lot of money.
