Billy Burns‘ time with Oakland is over.
The A’s traded their second year centerfielder, who has underachieved this season, for the Royals’ 28th ranked prospect Brett Eibner.
Burns was demoted halfway through the year after a paltry .280 on base percentage, which is a full 50 points below his 2015 campaign. Eibner has 78 big league at bats, and posted a .902 OPS in the Pacific Coast League for Kansas City’s AAA affiliate in Omaha.
The deal is the first of Oakland’s expected trade deadline weekend moves, with Rich Hill and outfielder Josh Reddick strong candidates to depart for a contender. Eibner seems to be major league ready, though he will start his career with the A’s with the Nashville Sounds, the club’s AAA affiliate.
Eduardo Nuñez has made quite a splash with the Giants, including a two-run double Saturday.
