Police fatally shoot double homicide suspect in San Jose standoff

San Jose police said a suspect shot during a standoff early Wednesday morning has died.

The man suspected of two homicides in a 12-hour period barricaded himself in the 100 block of Bendorf Drive around 5 a.m. Officials said he’d shot at officers during a pursuit that led to the residential area near a community youth center.

The San Jose Police Department said via Twitter the suspect fired additional shots at officers during the barricade, prompting evacuation of some residents. None of the officers involved were struck or injured by gunfire.

Just before 8 a.m., officials said man pointed a gun at special operations personnel and the incident resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to a police statement issued at 11:03 a.m.

Police believe the man killed was responsible for fatally shooting a male victim in the 1400 block of Mt. Shasta Drive Tuesday evening. They have also identified him as a suspect in a Modesto homicide committed hours later.
