A teenage bicyclist was killed in Mountain View on Thursday in a collision with a transport truck along El Camino Real, according to police.
Dispatchers started receiving reports around 8:15 a.m. of a collision between a bicyclist and a transport truck at the intersection of El Camino Real and Grant Road.
First responders immediately tended to the 13-year-old bicyclist, according to police, attempting life-saving measures and subsequently transporting him to a hospital, where he ultimately died.
Investigators have determined that speed, drugs and alcohol were not factors in the collision. The driver of the truck also remained at the intersection after the collision and was “very cooperative,” police said.
In a statement released Thursday afternoon, Mountain View-Whisman School District Superintendent Ayinde Rudolph said the teenager was a student at Graham Middle School.
Rudolph said:
“There are no words that I can say to help take away the pain that we are collectively feeling.”
The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office has yet to release the teenager’s name. Rudolph also said the school district would not release his name as a matter of privacy.
