Free Covid tests, up to four per U.S. residence, now available via Postal Service

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. Postal Service soft-launched a website Tuesday that will allow residents to order at-home Covid-19 tests for free.

The website, https://www.covidtests.gov, allows all households in the country to order up to four at-home antigen tests per residence. According to federal officials, tests are available for every residential address in the country.

The tests will ship in roughly 7-12 days, according to federal officials, who said the website’s full launch is expected Wednesday. Tests ordered via the website will offer results within 30 minutes.

People who need more than four tests, need them in less than a week or need a higher-sensitivity PCR test are encouraged to visit retail pharmacies or a local testing site.

Residents can also reimburse cost of tests purchased from retail pharmacies via their health insurer. Insurance providers are required to reimburse up to eight at-home tests per month for each person on an insurance plan.

Tests ordered via the website are expected to begin shipping later this month, according to the USPS.
