Police officers are investigating a Saturday vehicle fire that left two dead on the 1000 block of Shasta Street, the Vallejo Police Department announced on Monday.
At 9:22 p.m., police responded to reports of a car completely engulfed in flames with at least two people inside.
After Vallejo firefighters arrived shortly after to contain the fire, the car’s two inhabitants, an adult man and a minor, were pronounced dead at the scene by medical officials. The Solano County Coroner’s Office is withholding their identities until confirmation and notification of family members.
One Vallejo officer said they noticed the vehicle, a blue 2005 Infiniti G35, spinning donuts near Shasta Street and Springs Road. Police said the driver turned off the car’s headlights and drove northbound on Shasta at high speeds after seeing the officer. The officer did not pursue the vehicle for the sake of public safety, said the police department.
Preliminary information about the crash shows the driver was driving northbound on Shasta Street and lost control of the vehicle before it collided with two parked cars and a large tree. The car caught on fire after the crash, police said.
Police ask anyone with more information to contact Officer Kenneth Trimble at (707) 648-4011.
