15 inches of rain since Oct. 1 is most since 1983 in San Francisco

The National Weather Service said, as of 5 p.m. Sunday, San Francisco has had 15.01 inches of rain since Oct. 1, making this year the wettest during that same time span since 1983 (15.7 inches).

Overall, this year’s rainfall to date is the eighth-most since records have been held. The record remains 23.77 inches, which occurred 122 years ago in 1889.

Forecasters predict more rain into Monday morning along with continued colder than seasonal temperatures. Snow levels will lower into Tuesday morning before precipitation turns to dryer but still cold conditions on Wednesday.

For now, drier conditions are seen for New Year’s weekend in the Bay Area.
