Three Oakland shootings in 24 hours claim lives of two men, child

Police said Monday that in addition to the freeway shooting that killed a child, five other people were shot and two died in two Oakland shootings this past weekend.

Officers responded at 8:19 p.m. Friday night to the 8400 block of International Boulevard after someone reported a shooting in the area. Officers located two Oakland men who had been shot, according to police. Both were taken to a hospital, police said.

Two other Oakland men arrived later at a hospital. Both were suffering from gunshot wounds and one of them died Saturday afternoon, according to police.

Jasper Wu, a 23-month-old Fremont boy, was shot at about 2 p.m. on southbound Interstate 880 near Filbert Street Saturday. The child was in a white Lexus traveling from San Francisco to Fremont with his mother, two other adults and two other children, according to the boy’s aunt.

Investigators said the boy was hit by a stray bullet from a gunfire battle between at least two other vehicles. Jasper was rushed to Oakland Children’s Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.  

On Saturday evening, officers responded at 5:37 p.m. to the 7400 block of Weld Street following a report of a shooting. Officers located an Oakland man with bullet wounds, police said.

Officers provided medical aid before the man was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He died at 8:24 p.m., according to police.

Violence has claimed 119 lives this year in Oakland.
