Lightning strike hits North Bay after weather service cancels Red Flag Warning

The low risk of Monday thunderstorms in the Bay Area has dissipated, though there was one morning report of a lightning strike.

The National Weather Service canceled the Red Flag Warning, which was otherwise set to expire Monday evening. In a statement posted on Twitter at 5:36 a.m. Monday, NWS said:

“Much of the monsoonal moisture tracked offshore overnight and did not result in thunderstorm activity.”

Less than an hour later at 6:18 a.m., the service reported a “pop up cell” over the North Bay and one detected lighting strike in the area.
