Evacuation stickers help first responders identify homes already cleared

Evacuation tags are being handed out to residents in Sausalito, Mill Valley, Tiburon and Belvedere in preparation for wildfire season.

Residents are encouraged to display their tags on their property in a visible area during an evacuation. The tags can be posted on the front door, mailbox, garage door or front gate.

The hope is that first responders can easily identify which homes are cleared when assisting residents in emergency situations. Sonoma County also introduced evacuation tags into their emergency response plans earlier this year.

Marin County law enforcement officials say the tags should be the latest thing to add to residents’ evacuation lists.

Mill Valley Police Sgt. David Kollerer said in a public service announcement:

“We have learned that seconds count during evacuations, and are excited to bring this time-saving tool to our residents. … Pick up your tag today.”

Residents can pick up the tags at their respective city police stations.
