Weather service issues brutal weekend forecast, extends heat advisory to North Bay valleys

The National Weather Service Friday morning issued an adjusted weekend heat advisory to include North Bay valleys. While cities like Santa Rosa are expected to reach high 90s on Saturday, the valley areas will narrowly escape the extreme heat in store for the region’s mountain ranges and much of the East Bay interior area.

Some inland East Bay and Tri-Valley cities will see triple-digit temperatures through late Sunday night. According to the NWS, Concord will get to 106 Friday and climb to 107 Saturday — that forecast in mirrored in Livermore. The North Bay city of Cloverdale is expected to reach 108 on Saturday.

This latest extreme heatwave will impact most of California, Arizona, Nevada and Utah. The area surrounding Furnace, California near the Nevada border is expected to hit a Saturday high of nearly 130.

The Bay Area coast will remain fairly cool and mild, with a San Francisco high of 72 on both Saturday and Sunday.

People in extreme heat zones are urged to stay hydrated, remain in air conditioned indoor spaces and limit outdoor activity as much as possible. The same suggestions apply to pets.
