A 34-year-old Fairfield man suffered major life-threatening injuries after crashing into a concrete barrier while racing another car Saturday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.
The man was driving westbound in a 1998 Chevrolet Corvette at speeds exceeding 120 mph on state Highway 37 while racing a car that may have been a purple Dodge Charger, officials said.
The Corvette driver lost control while approaching state Highway 29 and hit a barrier, engulfing the car in flames.

The driver was removed from the car with major life-threatening injuries. A passenger in the Corvette suffered minor injuries, officials said.
Both occupants of the Corvette had been wearing seat belts.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
