San Francisco District 1 supervisor candidate Marjan Philhour has conceded the race to Connie Chan after falling behind by 123 votes.
Philhour said in a tweet at 6 p.m. Sunday night:
“While the results of the election are not what we had hoped, I wish our incoming Supervisor all the best when she assumes office in January.”
She also shared a video thanking her supporters on Twitter and spoke about how Covid-19 impacted both her and the campaign she launched in March, adding:
“The COVID 19 pandemic only underscored the fundamental reason I ran for office – to help people, to help our community, to help our small businesses.”
Sunday’s release of latest results had Chan up at 17,030 votes, while Philhour had slipped down to 16,907 with ranked-choice voting factored by the Department of Elections.
Chan is widely seen as a progressive and earned support from outgoing Supervisor Sandra Lee Fewer, who did not seek reelection to represent the Richmond District. Philhour was supported by Mayor London Breed. The former candidate previously served as senior advisor to the mayor.
In tweet at 7:01 p.m., Chan responded to her victory over Philhour by saying:
“We are thrilled to share our victory in the District 1 Supervisor race! Thank you to our dedicated volunteers and working families throughout the Richmond District. Let’s celebrate this hard won fight. This victory belongs to you — to all of us.”
