Firefighters contain a two-alarm blaze in the Oakland hills on Tuesday, October 27, 2020. The blaze was largely confined to two structures that sustained heavy damage, displacing eight people.
The Oakland hills fire that erupted Tuesday morning is now under control, according to fire officials just before 11:30 a.m.
Firefighters from Oakland, Fremont, Hayward and Alameda County departments responded as part of a strike team to the incident that began on the 6200 block of Crown Avenue in the hills above Montclair. Two structures and approximately 5,000 square feet of vegetation were burned during the two-alarm blaze.
Explaining why some nearby residents reported hearing pops and an explosion just before the fire, officials said:
“Preliminary cause of this fire is an overloaded generator.”
Eight people have been displaced due to extensive damage sustained at both structures.
The fire was first reported around 9:45 a.m.
