Car crash sparks 300-acre fire near Altamont Pass late Thursday

A brush fire that burned 300 acres overnight along Interstate Highway 580 near the Altamont Pass is 100 percent contained, Alameda County fire officials said about 9:30 a.m. Friday.

The blaze was sparked by a non-injury car crash just before midnight Thursday on I-580 at North Flynn Road, according to the Alameda County Fire Department.

The fire temporarily closed down lanes in both directions on the freeway, the California Highway Patrol said.

The freeway reopened about 4:30 a.m. Friday.
