The Crews Fire burning east of Gilroy in rural Santa Clara County has burned an estimated 2,000 acres and is 20 percent controlled as of Monday morning, according to Cal Fire.
The state fire agency wrote on social media shortly after 10 a.m. Monday with the update on the wildfire, which was first reported at about 2:45 p.m. Sunday along Crews Road.
The Cal OES Strike Team 2870C was deployed Sunday evening to assist the Cal Fire effort, according to Fremont Fire Department officials. The strike team includes crews from Fremont, Hayward, Oakland and Alameda County departments.
Flames spread east across Canada Road, prompting evacuations in the area, and have destroyed two buildings, according to Cal Fire.
