County approves 16-bed, 24-hour psychiatric health facility

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday approved creating a psychiatric health facility called the Sonoma County Healing Center in Santa Rosa.

County officials said the facility will be located at 7440 Los Guilicos Road, the former site of the Valley of the Moon Children’s Home, and is expected to open later this year or in early 2021.

The 16-bed facility will run 24 hours a day for short-term treatment of people needing acute mental health care, and will be operated by Crestwood Behavioral Health, a Sacramento-based health care provider, according to the county.

Board chair Susan Gorin said:

“For far too long, people in need of acute mental health services would have to leave the county to obtain them.”

Gorin added:

“This facility will allow people to continue to live in the community, while receiving the appropriate level of care.”
