Bay Area COVID-19 update: regional cases climb, jail deputy tests positive, Hayward testing center opens

The latest developments around the region related to the novel coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, as of Monday morning include:

A San Francisco sheriff’s deputy, who is assigned to county jail No. 4, located on the seventh floor at 850 Bryant St., has tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

A partnership with a Menlo Park genetics laboratory firm will allow Hayward to open a dedicated center offering up to 370 free COVID-19 coronavirus tests per day. The testing center is located at the fire station at 28270 Huntwood Ave.

The city of Berkeley will temporarily suspend enforcement of some parking rules, including those pertaining to parking meters, time-limited parking, school zones and residential permit parking, through April 7.

A Santa Clara County employee, Director of Communications and Public Affairs Maria Leticia Gomez, has tested positive for the COVID-19 coronavirus after falling ill March 13.

• Alameda County: 106 cases (65 at last check Sunday)
• Contra Costa County: 61 cases, 1 death (51 cases, 1 death as of Sunday)
• Marin County: 38 cases (38 on Sunday)
• Monterey County: 14 cases, 1 death (11 on Sunday)
• Napa County: 2 cases (0 on Sunday)
• San Francisco County: 131 cases (105 on Sunday)
• San Mateo County: 117 cases, 1 death (117 cases, 1 death as of Sunday)
• Santa Clara County: 302 cases, 10 deaths (263 cases, 8 deaths as of Sunday)
• Santa Cruz County: 23 cases (15 on Sunday)
• Solano County: 14 cases (14 on Sunday)
• Sonoma County: 25 cases (23 on Sunday)
• Statewide: 1,468 cases, 27 deaths (1,433 cases, 25 deaths as of Sunday)
