Cooking accident sparks apartment fire

A cooking mishap caused a fire that displaced two people and damaged apartments at a complex in Brisbane early Monday morning, according to the North County Fire Authority.

North County Fire Authority A fire started early Monday, February 24, 2020 in the kitchen of a second-story unit on Visitacion Avenue in Brisbane, Calif.

Firefighters responded at 2:37 a.m. to the blaze reported on the second floor of a third-story apartment building at 34 Visitacion Ave.

Crews arrived and found smoke and flames coming from the kitchen of a unit, with fire extending through the wall and into two apartments directly above it and onto the roof, according to the fire authority.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze without any injuries reported. The American Red Cross assisted the two displaced residents with housing assistance.
