The Alameda County Fire Department was able to keep a fire at a single-story Castro Valley house from doing extensive damage, but the blaze Saturday left three dogs dead and an undetermined number of residents displaced, officials said.
Crews responded to the fire at 4921 Seaview Ave. off Redwood Road at 2:45 p.m. and had to cut a large hole in the roof to contain the fire.
Personnel worked to revive the dogs, which succumbed to “massive” smoke inhalation, the department said.
No residents or firefighters were injured.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
