The San Francisco medical examiner’s office has identified 21-year-old Todd Odnamar as the person killed by a Muni light rail vehicle early Sunday morning.
Police and transit officials reported that the San Francisco resident was sitting on the train’s couplers and fell off as the two-car train began to move near Sunnydale Avenue and Bayshore Boulevard around 1:17 a.m.
According to Muni officials, Odnamar fell underneath the second car and was run over by the train. Police said Odnamar died at the scene.
The couplers connect Muni’s light rail vehicles and have black and yellow colored straps surrounding them to caution the public from crossing between trains.
Erica Kato, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency said the operator was unaware that the man had been struck. Another operator reported the body on the trackway.
A GoFundMe page was setup by a family member to help with funeral costs. So far, the page has raised $8,805 toward the $10,000 goal.
The GoFundMe page reads:
“We are grief stricken over sudden passing of our dearest son due to accident. My sweet and gentle son was only 21. Please help us so that we can properly send him onto his next journey.”
