SF officials, celebrities brighten holidays with Christmas tree giveaway

San Francisco police and Mayor London Breed’s office will be continuing its fourth annual Christmas tree giveaway for families in need in the Western Addition neighborhood on Monday afternoon.

At least 300 trees will be and have been given to less fortunate San Francisco families Sunday and Monday, with Monday’s event scheduled to be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fillmore and Turk Streets Mini Park.

The San Francisco Housing Authority worked with The Guardsman, a Bay Area-based nonprofit, to provide the trees to residents.

Mayor London Breed said in a statement:

“This time of year and in the spirit of giving, the city and our community organizations come together to support families who are less fortunate.”

Following today’s giveaway, a celebrity meet-and-greet for families will take place at the Fillmore Heritage Center at 1330 Fillmore St. from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Scheduled to appear are former NBA players and Golden State Warriors Baron Davis, Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, along with others.

The giveaway started Sunday in Hunters Point. Monday’s event is a continuation of the annual Christmas Tree Giveaway from Breed’s office and police, along with help from local nonprofits, according to police.
