Bomb squad deems suspicious device safe, schools lift lockdowns

A suspicious device that was found inside Bowers Park in Santa Clara Friday morning has been deemed safe, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office.

Three schools located near the Cabrillo Avenue park were ordered to shelter in place during the investigation, but Santa Clara police issued a statement through the department’s Twitter account at 11:40 a.m. to say that the order had been lifted.

The sheriff’s bomb squad arrived around 10:30 a.m. to investigate what Deputy Michael Low referred to as a “bucket.” It was later determined that suspicious device was not explosive.
