Capitol Corridor train strikes person on Hayward tracks

A Capitol Corridor train struck a person trespassing on the tracks in Hayward Thursday morning, according to the transit agency. Train 523, traveling from Sacramento to San Jose, struck the person south of the Hayward station at 7:51 a.m., Amtrak spokeswoman Olivia Irvin said.

Irvin did not have any information about the condition of the person struck by the train. There were no injuries to the 37 passengers on board or any crew members, she said.

The agency planned to transfer passengers to Train 525 in Fremont. Amtrak police will work with local law enforcement to investigate the collision.
