Two lanes reopen on I-680 after big rig collision, gas spill

Two lanes of northbound Interstate Highway 680 have reopened near Fremont on Monday morning after a collision between two big-rigs led to a fuel leak of more than 3,800 gallons of gasoline, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was first reported at 1:48 a.m. near Vargas Road. A big-rig struck the center divider and jackknifed, then was struck by the second big-rig, CHP Officer Tyler Hahn said.

Minor injuries were reported in the crash, which blocked all northbound lanes of the highway for several hours. The two left lanes reopened as of shortly before 9 a.m. but the other lanes remain closed and there is no estimate for when they will reopen, according to the CHP.
