Pedestrian struck on highway after fleeing police on foot

Police and the California Highway Patrol are investigating a Monday afternoon collision involving a pedestrian on Interstate Highway 280 in San Francisco.

According to CHP Officer Bert Diaz, police had been chasing a suspect on foot near the Monterey Boulevard off-ramp from southbound Highway 280.

The pedestrian then ran onto the highway and across the lanes when a silver Mercedes Benz struck him.

The collision happened around 3:25 p.m., Diaz said.

Some of the highway’s southbound lanes were closed as police and the CHP investigated the collision. All lanes of traffic were reopened as 4:30 p.m., according to the CHP.

The pedestrian’s condition was not immediately available.
