Westbound Interstate Highway 580 remains closed Tuesday afternoon at the junction with state Highway 24 in Oakland because of law enforcement activity, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The CHP initially reported the closure of westbound lanes of Highway 580 in the area shortly before 10:30 a.m. and about a half-hour later said all westbound lanes were closed.
Traffic has been diverted off the highway onto Highway 24 as well as Interstate Highway 980. The CHP Oakland Twitter account wrote at 1:47 p.m. that the highway is likely to remain closed for two more hours. A CHP spokesman said more information about what prompted the highway closure will be released later Tuesday afternoon.
