Man dies after fiery Highway 9 collision

A man died when his car caught on fire after drifting into oncoming traffic and colliding with another vehicle Sunday morning on state Highway 9 in Ben Lomond, according to the California Highway Patrol. The man, a 56-year-old resident of Watsonville, was driving north on Highway 9 near Highlands County Park shortly after 6 a.m. when his vehicle crossed over into oncoming traffic and crashed into a vehicle traveling south, according to the CHP.

Good Samaritans helped the man out of his burning car. He was transported to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 36-year-old Boulder Creek resident, declined medical treatment for the minor injuries she suffered in the crash, according to the CHP.
