Unemployment rates drop below 5 percent across Bay Area counties

Unemployment rates were below five percent in all nine San Francisco Bay Area counties last month, data from the California Employment Development Department shows.

Bay Area July unemployment rates contributed to a statewide rate of 4.1 percent, a tie for the record low, according to EDD. The national rate was 3.7 percent.

San Mateo County had the lowest rate at 2.3 percent, followed by San Francisco County at 2.4 percent, Marin County at 2.5 percent, and Santa Clara County at 2.8 percent.

Solano County had the highest rate at 4.2 percent.

In Sonoma and Napa counties, unemployment was 3 percent. Alameda and Contra Costa counties reported unemployment rates of 3.3 and 3.4 percent respectively.
