Oakland police are looking for a suspect who allegedly nearly struck officers and pedestrians near Lake Merritt on Sunday evening, according to police.
A man was pulled over in a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro with racing stripes on the hood and roof, along with temporary plates in the 2150 block of Lakeshore Avenue around 6:15 p.m., police said.
As officers attempted to get the man out of the vehicle, he recklessly drove away, narrowly missing officers and other pedestrians. Video of the alleged encounter has been shared by members of the public on social media and shows the driver speeding away from the scene.
The suspect wasn’t captured, but the vehicle was found in Fremont a few hours later. He is only described as a man in his 20s. No further information is immediately available.
