Caltrain is increasing the cost of their monthly pass from 14 days worth of regular fares to 15.
A person was fatally hit by a northbound Caltrain in Burlingame on Monday evening, the agency reported.
The eighth fatal strike of the year was reported at 4:45 p.m. at the Burlingame Caltrain Station. The agency said the victim was “trespassing” on tracks in the area.
There were about 750 passengers on the train but none of them were injured, according to Caltrain. The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating whether the victim died accidentally or by suicide. The county coroner’s office will identify the victim once their family is notified.
In a statement, the said:
“No matter what the circumstances, it is always regrettable when a life is lost.”
“Caltrain also would like to thank our passengers for their patience as we deal with these sad situations.”
Southbound tracks reopened at 5:15 p.m. and northbound tracks reopened by 5:45 p.m. at restricted speeds of 50 mph.
