Suspect shoots at family after five-hour standoff

Police arrested a man suspected of shooting at a family member with two handguns Friday afternoon following a five-hour standoff. Officers responded just before 11 a.m. Friday to a home in the 600 block of School Street, where family members told them there had been an argument before the man came out with two handguns. After a brief struggle for the weapons, the man shot at one person and drove away in his car, according to police.

No one was hit, and everyone involved left the area of the home, police said.

Within minutes of searching for the suspect, police found his car parked back in front of his home on School Street. Learning his identity, officers called the suspect’s cell phone, but he denied involvement in the shooting and refused to leave his home, police said.

For the next several hours, officers tried to persuade him to come out peacefully, according to police.

Detectives obtained a search and arrest warrant for the man and his home. Shortly after 4 p.m. when the Pittsburg Police Department Tactical Team arrived to serve the warrant, the man left his home and was taken into custody without further incident. His name has not been released.
