Police release details of arrest after three-hour standoff

A Watsonville man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a three-hour standoff with police.

Officers approached 39-year-old David Melgoza in the 200 block of Center Street, and said Melgoza went inside a family member’s home and refused to come out.

A special response team responded to the scene and convinced him to surrender, and he later walked out of the home on his own.

In a news release, police said:

“Our officers have had several encounters with him in the past and this type of behavior is very common, given that he always runs from us.”

Police said Melgoza was on parole for felony hit-and-run causing great bodily injury but did not specify why he was again arrested.
