The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office received two separate reports of people being scammed out of money by fraudulent court documents sent to them via email between Monday and Tuesday.
The victims lived in the town of Portola Valley and community of Ladera.
The sender of the emails fraudulently identified themselves as a sheriff’s office sergeant and sheriff’s office lieutenant in an attempt to obtain money from the victims.
Sheriff’s officials are asking anyone who has received this type of email and documentation to notify the sheriff’s office right away.
