The 10th dead whale to wash onto Bay Area beaches this year was found in Pacifica on Tuesday morning.
The Pacifica Police Department was notified of a whale carcass at Shelter Cove around 9:30 a.m. but did not send its officers to investigate because it was “quite a hike,” Capt. Chris Clements said.
Instead, they advised the Marin Headlands-based Marine Mammal Center to journey to Shelter Cove to analyze the remains of the whale. Center officials were not immediately available to comment on the latest case.
