All westbound lanes have reopened on the Bay Bridge after a pursuit led to a fatal motorcycle crash on the west end of the bridge during Tuesday morning’s commute.
The pursuit began when a California Highway Patrol officer tried to stop a motorcyclist around 7:35 a.m. for a bus lane violation in the westbound lanes near the toll plaza, CHP spokesman Officer Bert Diaz said.
The motorcyclist, a man whose name has not yet been released, fled west but then crashed just east of Fremont Street on the San Francisco side of the bridge. He has since succumbed to his injuries, according to Diaz.
The crash initially shut down the three left lanes of the highway, but as of 11:30 a.m. all lanes had reopened.
No other injuries were reported in the pursuit and crash.
