Testing at Lovers Point Park beach in Pacific Grove on Monday found evidence of fecal matter in the water, according to the Monterey County Health Department.
County officials have posted an advisory at the beach at 631 Ocean View Blvd. until waters return to safe conditions. Visitors are asked to avoid recreational activities at the beach, since contact with beach water can lead to illness.
The fecal matter may have come from marine life, other animals, rainfall runoff in storm drains and humans. Samples showed high levels of indicator bacteria, which are used to test for feces.
