Authorities determine ‘suspicious device’ not a threat

Police in Alameda closed Hibbard Street between Paru and Grand streets Monday morning while they investigated a suspicious device, but deputies from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and determined it was not a threat to public safety.

The Alameda Police Department in a tweet around 11:25 a.m. asked drivers to avoid the area. Deputies arrived on scene just before 1 p.m., according to police.

They determined that the “device” in question was not an explosive and did not pose any threat to the public. The device was collected and the roadways were reopened a few minutes later.
